Taken for a Ride...
...though I knew what I was doing. After a day of cultural outings to the National Gallery and the National Museum, I finally gave in to the blister on my in-step and agreed to let a tuk-tuk driver show me the Buddahs reincarnated in various locales though out the city... for 20 baht or so...
Having grown up an Army brat, I have seen some wild traffic before...in Panama and Turkey, but nothing NOTHING compares to Bangkok. Lanes and traffic directions are all optional here. My tuk tuk guy quickly got me acclimated by turning u-turning onto an oncoming traffic lane where a bus was barreling towards us in some sort of Thai version of "chicken". He answered my protestations "I make you happy. I make you very happy." What are you going to do?

We check constantly for your blogs. Haven't been able to figure out yet the time difference.
Your pictures are wonderful--we enlarge each one and study the details. Through them we are close to experiencing the smells and textures of your journey. We got such a laugh at your temerity to eat a fried grasshopper! Why not, your favorite "birthday" treat were snails at a restaurant in San Salvador.
Your description of Bangkok elicited "Ah yes, like Saigon," from Daddy. You know, don't you, that if Aunt Jane and I were there we'd never get out of the marketplace--a shopper's paradise, true?
Hi Anne,
thanks for including me on your list. I love the pictures. What an adventure! The little bits of SE Asia i've seen make me want to go back for a real visit. There is so much to see. Just got off the ship and am dealing with cleaning up after storms that happened while i was gone.
I am somewhat computer challenged so i hope i am doing this right.
